Joy

I got to know Joy through her husband Jeff, who’s my friend from college. Jeff and I were both cheerleaders in Ateneo, and it’s nice to know that he met someone who’s as crazy with basketball as he is. They met, get this, through Twitter. Talking about Glee. How’s that for a love story? This got me thinking. Joy, how will you tell your story to your grandchildren 30, 40 years from now? “Nakilala ko lolo niyo sa Twitter, yun yung uso dati eh, kailangan lahat ng sasabihin mo hanggang 140 characters lang…” and then proceed to explain how a hashtag works. #LoveOnLine? Possible!

Malou (And Why Jo Rubio Should Do Your Wedding Gown)

Malou, as you’ll see in the photos below, is a classic Filipina beauty. With her amazing morena skin and modelesque height and features, she can easily represent Philippines in Ms. Universe. Move over Shamcey! It was a breeze doing her makeup because all I really needed to do was simply enhance her glow.

JO RUBIO

I rarely talk about other wedding suppliers here in my blog at length, but this is the least I can do for Jo Rubio, wedding gown designer extraordinaire. I first worked with him  about 3 years ago, and it was always good to know when a client of mine gets him to do her wedding gown because Jo’s creations never fail to impress me and anyone who sees them. They’re always impeccably created and detailed, the result always romantic and ethereal. I guess he likes my style too, because he has referred me to several of his clients who asks him his advice on who to get as their makeup artist. It’s too bad that I can’t do the same with him because whenever brides-to-be have their trial makeup with me, they already have a wedding gown designer. So, to brides-to-be reading this and who still don’t have a designer in mind, please do me a huge favor and consider Jo Rubio !

Irene

I love getting clients from all over the world, and Irene is my first one that’s based in Dublin, Ireland. She’s actually already married to her husband years ago, but they decided to go home and have a bonggang church wedding last year. Looking at the photos, who knew that she already has two kids? Irene certainly looks like a newlywed to me!

I love Irene’s glow here. Thanks to airbrush makeup! Nice hairpiece, too.

Ayz

Ayz is (yet again!) one of my Singapore-based brides. I just met her on the day of her wedding in Tagaytay because we didn’t have trial makeup, which as always, makes me a bit worried because I still have this fear that those who didn’t have trial with me might not like what I do on the wedding day. Though when I finally met Ayz, my worries were eased because with a face that cute, how can a makeup artist go wrong? Check out her cuteness in the photos!

Liz

Liz is one my Singapore-based brides. Her wedding was held in Meycauayan, Bulacan, which I really like because even though it’s out of town, it’s actually easier for me to go here than to go to Makati since I’m from Quezon City. Farther, yes, but no traffic!

Liz’s main concern was her eye makeup. She said that almost all those who did her makeup make her piercing eyes look too strong, which makes her look mataray. So I just put minimal eyeshadow, diffused her eyeliner, and didn’t put false eyelashes anymore to soften her eyes. The result: she looked doe-eyed instead of mataray in the photos.

Bethany

I got to know Bethany through her husband/financial guru extraordinaire Melvin. I gave makeup and image enhancement seminars to some corporate clients under Melvin’s training company before (special shout out to those I’ve trained in BPI!). Plus, I owe him a lot because he jumpstarted my knowledge in personal finance. Given its importance, I really don’t get why we’re taught lots of useless subjects in high school and college but not how to handle our own money. He gave me a valuable and enlightening crash course 2 years ago on how to invest my hard earned (a.k.a. katas ng makeup) money wisely, so now I can proudly say that not only do I have a makeup portfolio, I have a financial portfolio as well.

So, back to Beth. I did a smokier version of the natural eye makeup I did during her trial and tinghun, and Alex put her hair up in a simple updo, which really suits her as it was able to show off the detail of her gorgeous gown’s neckline. Alex said her eyes resemble Sam Pinto’s, and I agree!

This wedding also turned out to be great because I got to work with photographer John Ong. A few weeks before this we worked together for the first time in a prenup shoot in Bellaroca, and I told him I wonder why I’ve worked with a lot of Imagine Nation photographers in my weddings but never with him. So we were surprised that merely a few weeks after, we’d bump into each other again!

Jannice

Jannice is one of my Singapore-based brides, yet again (See, kumikitang kabuhayan talaga ako because of Singapore!). I spent the whole day with her during their prenup shoot in Tagaytay a few months before the wedding, so I was quite comfortable with her already by the time we met again on her wedding day last December.

If you ask me what I really envy about other people’s features, I envy those with long eyelashes. I usually convince my brides to wear false eyelashes on their wedding day because it really makes the eyes look more awake, but since Jannice had such enviable lashes, I didn’t need to put any. As for me the inggitera, I’ll just have to make do with trusty Maybelline mascaras to do the job of lengthening mine.

Rose

Rose is my Texas-based bride. Her wedding was pretty special to me because it fell on my birthday. I definitely don’t mind spending my birthday working as long as I have awesome clients!

We were able to test the smokey eye look she wanted during their prenup shoot (check out the vintage themed photos here), so that’s what I also did for the wedding in Punta Fuego Batangas, sans the red lips to make the look softer.

Esel

All I really wanted were rain boots. But what I got in return was a family of bridal clients and personal makeup students! 2 years ago I was lusting for Plueys, these uber funky rain boots that I’ve seen on some of my friends. The inggitera that I am, of course I have to have my own pair. I was hesitant to order online because I wasn’t sure what size I have to get, so when I saw that the seller’s house is near where I live, I asked if I could fit them first there before I buy. Good thing she agreed, or else I wouldn’t have met Esel, the Plueys queen herself.

After I bought my pair, she referred me to her sister Kari, whom I did makeup on for her wedding. Kari and their other sister Risa also enrolled in Makeup Designory Manila‘s personal makeup class, which was taught by me. And then lastly, Esel also booked me for her very own wedding. It really is all in the family 🙂

I love the atmosphere of Esel’s wedding, it has an earthy and homey feel to it. It’s simple and unpretentious as you’ll see in the photos. But first, the requisite before-and-after!

Busy-busyhan. Thanks Jean, Via, and Dimple for helping me out!

Risa made her hairpiece and that of the entourage’s.

Also did Risa’s makeup. Check out more of the awesome stuff she’s selling here!

Funky paper flowers. I like!

Congrats Esel and Gelo!
