Rose is my Texas-based bride. Her wedding was pretty special to me because it fell on my birthday. I definitely don’t mind spending my birthday working as long as I have awesome clients!

We were able to test the smokey eye look she wanted during their prenup shoot (check out the vintage themed photos here), so that’s what I also did for the wedding in Punta Fuego Batangas, sans the red lips to make the look softer.

Here’s her before photo:

Rose + Chi’s Vintage Inspired Prenup Shoot

I do not normally post prenup photos here (this is actually the first time), but I’m making an exception for ย Rose and Chi. They were originally supposed to shoot in Enchanted Kingdom, but they learned late that it’s going to be closed on the day they want to do it. So at the last minute they decided to have a vintage themed shoot instead and booked The Filling Station, this place in Makati with a 50s diner vibe. I already shot here before for an OK! magazine fashion editorial, so I know they will have great photos, given the great ambiance in this restaurant.

I’m happy they changed plans because the photos turned out to be awesome! The makeup and hairstyle we did to Rose worked well with the theme. As for Chi, I don’t know why but he reminds me of those action stars from those campy 80s movies, he fits well in this kind of photos! Put a pale chinito here and it won’t work. Chi looks every bit a man’s man.

This shot would have been perfect if it were not for that PUMPKIN!

Love that last shot. Up next are Rose and Chi’s wedding photos!

I met Janeena last year when she modeled for a cosplay shoot I did with Jay Tablante and Tricia Gosingtian. Since then, she has referred several clients to me. I barely know this girl, yet she keeps on referring me! So when she asked me to do her makeup for the Star Magic Ball (she’s a VJ for Velvet and starred in Gimik before), I happily agreed to return the favor. Here are some photos from the shoot we had prior to the ball:

Deanna is my US-based bride. Her trial makeup with me a week before the wedding was quite a riot! Her mom, who hands down is the coolest and most bakla mother -of-the-bride I’ve ever met, was telling me and my hairstylist Alex a lot of stories about their family that really cracked us up. I knew right then and there that hers would be a very fun wedding to work on. And true enough, it really was. ๐Ÿ™‚

Some people ask me if it’s ok to do smokey eyes for wedding makeup. My answer: ABSOLUTELY! This is what Nestlee, my Australia-based bride, wanted. What I just always keep in mind when doing smokey bridal makeup is to still keep the whole look soft, not so much fasyon with heavy black eyeliner and thick false eyelashes. More often than not, I still do it in earth colors, though I utilize darker shades. Then I just add black if necessary, if my bride wants her eyes to be more dramatic.

Nestlee also introduced me and my hairstylist Dimple to GHD hair straightener. She insisted that Dimple use her hair straightener to curl her hair (yes, hair straightener could be used to curl hair, it’s actually easier! Go on Youtube and you’ll find dozens of tutorials on how to do this) because she really thinks its better. And indeed, it is. I think GHD is popular in Australia, months after Nestlee’s wedding, I did makeup on an Australian model and she also brought along her GHD straightener and insisted that the hairstylist use it. It’s quite expensive, but I’m thinking of buying one. Dimple already bought, it’s being sold in Tutuban. I might be motivated to practice hairstyling if I have this! And it doesn’t hurt that it comes in my favorite color:

So cute!

Phoenix Oil

Last year, my stylist friend Lila got me as the makeup artist for Phoenix Oil’s 2011 calendar and TV commercial. Too bad I haven’t seen the TVC when it aired, but good thing photographer Stan Ong was able to get these =)

Dianne is my Kuwait based bride. We didn’t have time for trial makeup because of their hectic schedule once they arrived in Manila, so we just regularly chat thru Facebook or YM regarding the look that she wants. I always say this, but I really do get nervous every time I have a bride that books me without trial because, what if on the wedding day, my makeup wasn’t what they expected or my style wasn’t what they were going for? Good thing Dianne was easy to talk to, she knows what she wants and she trusts me. I’m so relieved we got along very well and she was happy with her hair and makeup.

What I instantly noticed about Dianne was her eyes, they looked like they belong to an anime cartoon character! They’re round and big in a cute kind of way, perfect for the smokey eyes look we agreed on.

Here’s her “before” photo:

Bambi is probably one of the most enthusiastic brides I had. I think it took me double the time to do her makeup because every time I did something she likes, she says “Yipee!” with matching clapping of hands. Concealed her eyebags. Yipee! Smokey eyes. Yipee! Perfect shade of lipstick. Yipee!!! She could have probably bounded up and down the makeup chair a bit. How I wish all of my clients were this appreciative!

I did away with the usual natural look because Bambi wanted smokey eyes to make her chinita eyes bigger. This look really suits her because for some reason, not only does her eyes look bigger with smokey makeup, she becomes doe-eyed, as you’ll see in the photos.

I’ve also made her a Makeup Designory (MUD) Cosmetics convert. She liked the products I used on her so much she bought thousands worth of it from me, and she’s ordered another batch again. Go here to know more about MUD. =)

Much to my disappointment (and Bambi’s relief), my camera didn’t have any battery during her wedding day so I wasn’t able to take before-and-after photos. Bambi even said, “It really is my lucky day!” when I realized my camera would be useless for that day. Good thing I was able to grab these photos from the official photographers.

I am absolutely addicted to my Makeup Designory eyeshadow palettes!

Gotta love Bambi’s doe eyes =)

Hindi siya mahilig uminom noh?

Hinding-hindi talaga! =p

I loved Bam’s wedding gown made by my good friend Camille Garcia. She was my classmate in Ateneo and years after, who knew we would be working together in the wedding industry?

Ikaw na ang bride.

Also airbrushed Bambi’s sister’s makeup

Congratulations Bambi and Glenn!

The newlyweds with Dimple, me, Camille and her bf Neil. I look so haggard!
