More Cosplay Stuff (for Digital Photographer Phils Magazine)

After these cosplay shoots, I got to do another cosplay-themed one, this time for Digital Photographer Philippines (DPP) Magazine. I haven’t checked out the mag though, and I don’t know which issue it came out, so let me know if you’ve seen these so I could hunt for a copy. :)

When doing cosplay makeup, the most important thing you have to remember is to make the eyes look abnormally huge, like those of anime characters. How? There’s lots of tutorials in YouTube, but here are some tips:

1. Make the model wear contact lenses that make the pupils larger. This alone will instantly make the eyes seem bigger.

2. Pile on the false eyelashes. For the upper lashline, I usually put 2 falsies on each eye, one on top of the other. You also have the option to put falsies on the lower lashline, to make the eyes look cartoon-like.

3. Extend the whites of the eyes (what do you call them scientifically?) by putting white eyeliner on the waterline. If you want to make the eyes look bigger, you could extend the eyeliner all the way on the lower lashline itself, just like what I did for this shoot.

Les Femmes Fatales: Cosplay Photography

Last year, ace photographer Jay Tablante got me to do makeup for some of his cosplay shoots, which were then made into an exhibit entitled Les Femmes Fatales. I’m not a fan of cosplay, but it sure was fun doing these! There’s a lot of post-processing after we’ve done the shoot, and the final output always looked surreal, like the photos are lifted from a graphic novel. Good job, Jay! :)
